TC3000 attracts attention |

“We’re normally pretty pleased with the outcome of the MACH shows but the results of this year’s event have just been phenomenal,” began Brian Lewis, MD of TRUMPF Limited. “Everyone was so upbeat and positive. The number of visitors to our stand was up by 39% on 2002 and the orders are just rolling in. To date we have sold more than £2.2m worth of machines … and there are more orders expected.”
In total, TRUMPF welcomed 590 companies onto its stands. The machines it chose to exhibit spanned a variety of TRUMPF technologies and the orders received so far echo this breadth. |

The current list comprises three TC L2530 Plus and two TC L3030 flatbed lasers, a TC200 punching machine, three Trumabend press brakes and a solid state welding system. This represents an increase in TRUMPF sales on the last MACH of 200%.
TRUMPF noted that visitors were not necessarily looking at the biggest and the top-of-the-range machines, they were focusing on finding the optimum product to do the job. “Cost of production was a key issue for most visitors to our stand,” Brian Lewis continued. “They were also keen to invest in the short to medium term.” |

In addition to its main stand that concentrated on laser cutting, punching and bending, TRUMPF had two further display areas. One showed an excellent example of TRUMPF laser welding in the form of an Audi A2 chassis. The other focused on the 5-axis laser processing abilities of the TLC Cut 5.
For much of the show this new laser machine was producing C-columns for one of the world’s most elegant and exclusive car brands, the Maybach. This demonstration not only attracted a lot of interest amongst visitors involved in the manufacture of parts for the automotive industry, but also those involved in jig and tool repair.

Another positive outcome of the show from TRUMPF’s point of view was industry’s recognition of the importance of emerging technologies. Lasers have huge application potential and one field in which TRUMPF has invested a great deal of research and development is direct laser forming technology or powder deposition.
TRUMPF was therefore particularly pleased to be judged the winner in the Metalworking Awards, Physio-Chemical Category with its TrumaForm LF machine. One of the first users of this technology in the UK will be TWI – The Welding Institute. TRUMPF is currently completing the installation of a machine at TWI Sheffield where it will be used on a variety of research projects.
