From watch components to military vehicle parts, as one-offs or in high volume, the manufacturing expertise of Subcon Laser is exceptionally broad. As its name implies, this is a facility dedicated to laser production, a technology through which the company has been able to achieve high flexibility and economy. |

With the addition of its new TRUMPF TLC1005 5kW laser cell, the company is enhancing its ability to supply 3-dimensional welded structures. This is Subcon Laser’s second machine of this type. In 2001 it became the first manufacturer in the UK to offer 5kW TRUMPF laser processing. |

Although only installed within the month, this latest TLC is already producing a range of parts from tube splines to Jaguar bodysides and working on materials from moulded composite compound for JCB floors to titanium for aircraft parts.

Also just installed is another 5kW laser, an L3050 flatbed - this brings the number of 2-axis laser processing machines at Subcon Laser to eight. Naturally it will allow the company to cut even thicker materials and to process current materials a lot quicker.
Established in 1989, Subcon Laser now occupies a purpose built manufacturing facility in Nuneaton and its workforce has now grown to twenty five. It is a previous winner of the Small Business of the Year Award and the International Subcontracting Industries Awards. |

“These TRUMPF investments are really going to open up new markets for us,” explained General Manager, Tom Mongan. “We already serve a wide range of industries from exotic sports car producers to fence manufacturers, blue-chip companies to one-man bands. The additional high capacity TRUMPF machines will now take us into the heavier markets of truck building, construction, rail and yellow goods.”
A large proportion of Subcon Laser’s work has been secured through recommendation. “We always want to be ahead of the pack, not just in it,” Tom Mongan continues. |

“Continual investment to ensure we have the power and capacity to process any material at the right price is therefore very much part of that plan. We are market leaders and as such we want the best and that’s why our last four laser cutting systems have been from TRUMPF.”
Subcon Laser’s ability to offer the complete manufacturing package for the heavy industries is already paying dividends. Tom Mongan concludes, “We have just received a substantial enquiry for laser welding, it’s opening up whole new areas of potential for us.” |
